Chalice corals are diverse LPS species prized for their striking colors, including metallic hues, rainbow gradients, and unique patterns. They grow in encrusting or plating forms and are favored for their adaptability and striking appearance under actinic lighting.

Care Requirements:

• Lighting:
  • Type: Low to moderate. Chalices prefer subdued light, making them ideal for lower tank levels or shaded areas.
  • PAR Range: 50–120 PAR.
  • Intense light can cause bleaching. Gradual acclimation is essential if transitioning to higher light intensities.
• Flow:
  • Moderate to low flow. Gentle currents help prevent detritus buildup on the coral’s surface.
  • Direct, strong flow can lead to tissue damage and stress.
• Feeding:
  • Photosynthetic but benefits from target feeding. Offer small foods like plankton, reef roids, or finely chopped seafood.
  • Feeding at night is ideal, as polyps typically extend after dark. Feed 1–2 times weekly.
• Propagation:
  • Chalices are propagated by carefully cutting through their skeletal structure using a coral saw or bandsaw. Ensure clean cuts to minimize tissue damage.
  • Place frags in a frag tank or a low-stress recovery area with stable conditions for optimal healing.
