The Tomini Tang, also known as the Tomini Bristletooth Tang or Flame Fin Tang, is a smaller species of tang that is highly valued for its unique appearance and algae-grazing capabilities. With its brownish-gray body, bright yellow dorsal fin, and vivid orange accents on the pectoral fins, the Tomini Tang is both beautiful and functional. Its smaller size and peaceful demeanor make it an ideal choice for reef tanks and community setups.

  • Tank Size: 70 gallons minimum; larger tanks are recommended to provide ample swimming space and allow for peaceful coexistence with other tankmates.
  • Diet: Herbivorous; primarily feeds on algae and detritus, making it an effective tank cleaner. Offering a diet rich in marine-based seaweed, algae, and high-quality herbivore pellets will ensure optimal health. Supplementing with fresh greens such as nori is beneficial.
  • Water Temp: 74-80°F.
  • Salinity: 1.020-1.025.
  • Aggression: Peaceful; generally gets along well with other fish, though it may become territorial towards other tangs or similar species in smaller tanks.

  • Reef Compatibility: Reef-safe; does not harm corals or invertebrates and is beneficial for controlling algae growth in reef environments.
