Its body features a vibrant mix of white, orange, and red, with a long, slender shape and an elongated dorsal fin. Due to its calm demeanor and striking appearance, the Red Firefish is a favorite among reef tank owners.

  • Maximum Size: Up to 3 inches.
  • Tank Size: 20 gallons minimum; a tank with plenty of live rock for hiding and open swimming areas is ideal.

Special Requirement - Secure Lid
The Red Firefish is known to be an active jumper, particularly when startled or during times of stress. It is crucial to have a secure, tightly fitted lid on the aquarium to prevent the fish from jumping out of the tank. Firefish are notorious for leaping when they feel threatened, making a lid essential for their safety.

Coloration

  • Indo-Pacific Region: The Red Firefish has a body that transitions from white to bright red and orange, with an elongated dorsal fin that adds to its graceful appearance. Its vibrant colors and peaceful nature make it a standout addition to any reef tank.

Typical Habitat

  • Distribution: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Red Firefish is commonly found in coral reefs, where it darts in and out of rocky crevices and caves. It uses its long dorsal fin to stabilize itself while hovering in the water, hunting for plankton and other small prey.
