Product Details

The Marine Betta, also known as the Comet, is a truly captivating species known for its striking appearance and reclusive nature. Its dark, velvety body is covered in white spots, with a distinctive large black eye spot on the rear of its dorsal fin, which helps to confuse predators. Despite its shy demeanor, this fish is a beautiful addition to larger reef tanks and adds a sense of elegance and mystery with its graceful movements.

  • Reef Compatibility: With caution; while the Marine Betta is generally safe with corals, it may eat smaller invertebrates like shrimp and small fish, so careful consideration of tank mates is essential.

Special Requirement - Hiding Spaces
The Marine Betta is a shy and reclusive species that thrives in tanks with plenty of rockwork, caves, and overhangs where it can hide. This fish often remains out of sight, venturing out primarily during feeding times or when it feels secure.

Unique Coloration and Behavior
The Marine Betta’s dark body is adorned with white spots, giving it a starry-night appearance. One of its most fascinating features is the large black eye spot near its dorsal fin, which mimics an eye and helps to confuse predators. It also has the ability to hover motionlessly, mimicking the behavior of a more dangerous predator, further deterring threats.

Typical Habitat

  • Distribution: The Marine Betta is found in coral-rich areas of the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. It prefers rocky crevices and caves where it can retreat and ambush prey
