The Latigo Fairy Wrasse, also known as Brian Greene’s Fairy Wrasse, is a stunning species known for its vibrant color patterns and graceful swimming. Males showcase an incredible display of reds, oranges, and purples, particularly during mating displays. This species is a prized addition to reef aquariums, bringing both color and elegance to the tank.

Care Information

  • Maximum Size: Up to 4 inches.
  • Tank Size: 50 gallons minimum, with open swimming space and ample rockwork for hiding.
  • Diet: Carnivorous; feeds on a variety of high-quality frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. It also accepts small live foods and high-quality pellets.
  • Water Temp: 74-78°F.
  • Salinity: 1.020-1.025.
  • Aggression: Generally peaceful, but males can be territorial, especially towards other wrasses. Best kept in pairs or harems with one male and multiple females.
  • Skill Level: Intermediate; requires stable water conditions and a well-maintained environment.
  • Reef Compatibility: Reef-safe; does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent addition to reef aquariums.

Special Requirement - Secure Lid
Latigo Fairy Wrasses are known to be jumpers, particularly when startled or during displays. It is essential to have a secure, tightly fitted lid on the aquarium to prevent them from jumping out, ensuring their safety.

  • Western Pacific (Coral Sea): Specimens from this region exhibit vibrant colors, with males showing a blend of reds, oranges, and purple hues during courtship displays. Color intensity may vary slightly based on environmental factors​.
