Favia corals are hardy, encrusting or dome-shaped LPS corals with vivid, geometric patterns. They are excellent for filling gaps in aquascapes and are suitable for beginner and intermediate hobbyists.
Care Requirements:
Lighting: Moderate (PAR: 100–150). Thrives in a variety of lighting conditions but displays brighter colors under moderate lighting.
Flow: Moderate. Provides good polyp extension and prevents detritus buildup.
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from supplemental feeding of small meaty foods or powdered coral foods 1–2 times per week.
Propagation: Easily propagated by cutting the skeleton with a coral saw. Frags heal best in stable water conditions.
Notes:
Aggression: Moderate. Emits sweeper tentacles to protect its territory.
Placement: Place in mid-level tank zones with moderate flow and spacing to avoid contact with neighbors.
Pests: Susceptible to algae, vermetid snails, and flatworms.
