Cooper's Anthias is a stunning and active fish, popular in larger marine aquariums for its vibrant pink and red coloration with subtle blue markings. Known for its peaceful nature, it is often kept in groups, adding a lively dynamic to a well-established reef tank.

Care Information

  • Maximum Size: Up to 5 inches.
  • Tank Size: 125 gallons minimum, with plenty of swimming space and rock structures for hiding. Best kept in groups (harems) with a single male and multiple females.
  • Diet: Carnivorous; feed multiple times a day with small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood.
  • Water Temp: 72-80°F.
  • Salinity: 1.020-1.025.
  • Aggression: Peaceful within its group, but males can be aggressive towards each other. Ideal for community reef tanks.
  • Skill Level: Intermediate.
  • Reef Compatibility: Completely reef-safe; will not harm corals or invertebrates.

Typical Habitat

  • Distribution: Found in the Indo-Pacific, particularly around reefs in the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the Red Sea. Prefers deeper reef areas with strong water movement, often forming large schools​
