The Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse is a dazzling marine species known for its vibrant colors and flashing courtship displays. Males display brilliant hues of red, orange, and blue, making them a show-stopping addition to reef tanks. Their active swimming patterns and peaceful nature make them a popular choice for aquarists looking for a dynamic, colorful fish.

  • Maximum Size: Up to 3 inches.
  • Tank Size: 30 gallons minimum, with open swimming space and rockwork for hiding.
  • Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on high-quality frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. It will also accept live foods and high-quality pellets.
  • Water Temp: 74-78°F.
  • Salinity: 1.020-1.025.
  • Aggression: Peaceful but can be territorial towards other wrasses, especially males. Keeping them in pairs or harems (with one male and several females) is ideal.
  • Skill Level: Intermediate; requires stable water conditions and appropriate tank mates.
  • Reef Compatibility: Reef-safe; does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent addition to reef tanks.

Special Requirement - Secure Lid
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasses are known jumpers, especially when startled. It is critical to have a secure, tightly fitted lid on your aquarium to prevent them from leaping out of the tank. Their active swimming nature makes this a must for their safety.

Color Variation by Locality

  • Western Pacific: Specimens from this region display vibrant reds and blues, with males exhibiting even brighter colors during courtship displays. Some may show variations in intensity depending on the individual​.
