Aussie Red Blastomussa Frag (Blastomussa Sp.)
Product Details

Blastomussa corals are large polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their bold, vibrant colors and fleshy polyps. They grow in colonies with a soft, flower-like appearance, making them an excellent choice for aquarists looking for a unique and eye-catching addition to their reef tank. Blastomussa corals are hardy and suitable for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.

Key Features:

  • Large, fleshy polyps with vivid colors, including red, green, and purple variations.
  • Hardy and adaptable to a variety of tank setups.
  • Adds vibrant color and texture to aquascapes.

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Low to moderate (PAR: 50–150). Thrives in shaded or indirect light conditions, mimicking its natural environment.
  • Flow: Low to moderate. Gentle, indirect currents encourage healthy polyp extension without causing stress.
  • Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from supplemental feedings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or plankton 1–2 times weekly.
  • Propagation: Easily propagated by fragging individual polyps. Cut sections of the skeleton and secure them to a plug or rock for recovery.

Notes:

  • Aggression: Low. Does not emit sweeper tentacles but should be spaced away from aggressive neighbors.
  • Placement: Place in lower tank areas or shaded spots with gentle water movement. Ensure adequate space for polyp expansion.
  • Pests:
  • Flatworm-Eating Euphyllias: These pests can irritate or harm Blastomussa corals. Regular dipping is recommended when introducing new specimens.
    • Algae and bristleworms can also cause stress. Keep water parameters stable and inspect periodically.
