Product Details

The Asfur Angelfish, also known as the Arabian or Crescent Angelfish, is a stunning marine species characterized by its deep blue body with a striking yellow crescent running across its body and tail. This fish is highly sought after by aquarists due to its bold colors and majestic appearance, making it a perfect centerpiece for large, well-maintained aquariums.

Care Information

  • Maximum Size: Up to 16 inches.
  • Tank Size: 180 gallons minimum; larger tanks are recommended due to its active swimming behavior and potential size.
  • Diet: Omnivorous; feeds on a variety of marine sponges, algae, high-quality angelfish pellets, and meaty foods like mysis shrimp and krill. Sponge-based foods are essential for maintaining its health.
  • Water Temp: 75-80°F.
  • Salinity: 1.020-1.025.
  • Aggression: Semi-aggressive; can become territorial, especially as it matures. Should be introduced cautiously into tanks with other large fish, particularly other angelfish.
  • Skill Level: Advanced; requires experienced aquarists due to its size, specific dietary needs, and territorial nature.
  • Reef Compatibility: With caution; while it may nip at soft corals and sponges, it can coexist in a reef tank if well-fed and properly monitored.

Aggression Warning
The Asfur Angelfish can be territorial, particularly towards other angelfish and similar species. It is recommended to introduce them carefully and ensure that there is sufficient space to prevent territorial disputes. As they grow larger, they may become more aggressive.

Color Variation by Locality

  • Red Sea: The Asfur Angelfish from the Red Sea displays a vibrant blue body with a bold yellow crescent extending from the midsection to the tail, providing a striking contrast. Juveniles are often lighter in color and develop their full adult pattern as they mature.

Typical Habitat

  • Distribution: Found in the Red Sea and the western Indian Ocean, the Asfur Angelfish inhabits coral reefs and rocky outcrops. They prefer depths of 10 to 40 meters, where they graze on sponges and algae
